Happy Birthday to Denver’s Oldest Church

August 6th, 2009

With Trinity United Methodist Church turning 150 on Monday…made me reflect back on what I can’t believe was almost a year ago.  Thanks for letting us be a part of your history, Trinity!

I heart Denver.

Went to the 5280 Top of the Town launch party a few weeks back and this was the view from the amazing penthouse at the top of the Pinnacle. It had just finished raining.  Stunning!

Ra Ra Riot. Andrew Bird. Death Cab. Red Rocks.

A little rainbow keeping us company before the show.

Death Cab, the crowd, and the city lights of Denver.

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I really do live so close to quite possibly one of the most gorgeous ampitheaters in the world.  Red Rocks rocks.

Why do boys find paintballing fun?

Especially when you come home with these all over your body?

Laura (James’ sister) is dating the famous, Ryan-o who happens to be the “jacket runner” for the Colorado Rockies.  Every home game, whenever a Rockies pitcher is switched out, Ryan runs the pitcher’s jacket from the bullpen in center field to the Rockies dugout near home plate.  And this is no leisurely jog people - he sprints.  Fast.  Faster than most of the Rockies I’m sure!  He’s known for his crazy fast stems :).

Anyway, he hooked James, Laura and I up with a couple of tickets last week, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening at the ballpark.  After the game we had the oppritunity to go down onto the field with Ryan, which I must say was pretty darn cool.  I’m not an avid baseball fan by any means, but there’s something magical about being down there on the grass and seeing what the players see.  It’s spectacular.

To top off the night, Ryan snagged the baseball of the only home run of the night and gave it to me (you can see him for a split second climbing the stairs to get it)!  It made my night.  Thanks, Ryan!

Me and J behind the plate.  The grass was so beautiful (and real!).

Laura and Ryan - they’re cute :)

Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.

Nesso and I met in the early 90’s back before my family moved from California to Colorado.  We were 12 and in the 7th grade.  We had an instant connection and were virtually connected at the hip throughout junior high, but we really only had 2 years of friendship before my family moved to Colorado.  From then we both went off to high school, college, and then life, but we’ve always managed to stay really close and see each other at least once a year.  We have traveled to some amazing places together and have leaned on each other through all of life’s exciting thrills as well as all of life’s crazy curve balls.  She’s one of those friends that you can’t live without…

Four years ago, much to my absolute shock, Nesso moved to Colorado (she’s the ultimate California girl - never would have guessed that she would move anywhere where the temperature dips below 75 degrees)!  Anyway, she had been accepted into DU’s prestigious graduate program for Psychology.  Since we hadn’t lived in the same state since we were 12 years old and really hadn’t ever spent time together as an adult much longer than a couple weeks, it was quite a treat to have her here all the time!  We decided that Friday nights would be our weekly reoccurring date night, and literally for the last 4 years we’ve pretty much met up every single Friday for Happy Hour.  I was even lucky enough to have her here in Colorado throughout my entire wedding planning process.

This past spring Nesso finished school, which is super great for her but a super bummer for all of us here in CO because that meant it was time for her to head back to Cali for her internship.  Boo hoo!  So… while I am sad that our weekly Friday happy hours have officially ended, but bi-annual girls weekends have officially begun!  I’m excited for a new beginning, a new stage in our friendship.  Good luck, sista!

Us at James and I’s place - we threw her a “Going Back to Cali” Party

Disneyland, In-n-Out, and Grandparents…

July 12th, 2009

J and I went to Cali in early June to visit Gma and Gpa Cannon and Gma and Gpa Dever.  We had a great trip - here are some of the highlights!

We landed on Thursday morning by 10:30am CA time, headed straight to In-n-Out (must know about the secret menu if you’re a veggie), followed by Disneyland.  Ended the day back at our hotel in Newport with pizza, wine and a PPV movie.  Our kind of day.

Pirates of the Caribbean is the best ride.  No doubt.  Familiar characters have been added since I was last there!

I was really excited pre Indiana Jones. Disneyland rules.

Friday we spent the day with the Cannon’s.  Grandma made us the most delicious brunch - I almost had to carry James to the car afterward (I didn’t know he could put down that much food?).  Then we went to the Getty Villa in Malibu - right off PCH.  The Villa is nestled high above the Pacific Ocean (amazing views) and is known for its beautiful gardens and stellar collection of Roman and Greek arts.  It was quite an impressive place.  We then ended the day with a delicious Italian dinner in downtown LA.  Great day had by all!

My cute grandparents… posing in their amazing garden.

J and I in the spectacular Getty gardens.

Next up was the Dever’s.  Saturday we headed to Laguna Hills for lunch at the Dever’s house.  We then headed down to beautiful Laguna Beach where we walked the beach, did some shopping and caught up with Jean and John over a couple Starbucks coffees.  Later that night, the 4 of us met Todd (James’ uncle) down in Long Beach for dinner and a gondola ride through Naples.  It was awesome!  For someone who’s been on a Venetian gondola I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was actually VERY cool.  I highly recommend it next time you’re in Cali.  It made me want to buy a beach house in California (who am I?!).

I love Colorado but I’ll always misses the beaches of California.

Todd, Jean, John and our Gondolier.  They all look so cozy!

The sunset in Naples was perfect.

And Sunday it was time to head home!  We killed some time before our flight at Fashion Island, hit up our beloved In-n-Out one last time, and landed in Denver to a couple of tornadoes blazing through a local mall.  Home sweet home.

More pics here.

Is it really July 4th?!

July 4th, 2009

Wow.  It’s been nearly 2 months since I’ve been on this thing!  Nonetheless, happy 4th!  Hope the rain holds out and we all get to enjoy some fireworks tonight.

I promise an update is coming - I have not abandoned Red in the Head.  The new job mixed with summer craziness has lead to zero time for anything extra but sleep (and even that has been minimal).

SO!  I’ll be back.  Probably with more updates than anyone cares to hear about.  I miss you guys…
